Ryzon Fitness needed a product that felt like a gym community — not a fitness tracker with a social tab bolted on. I was brought in to design the core product experience from the ground up.

More than a workout tracker —
a gym that feels like a community.

Ryzon Fitness came to me with a clear vision: a platform for personal trainers to run their business and build a loyal member community — not just log workouts. The founder, Josh, wanted something that could compete on feel, not just features.

The challenge was building three interlinked experiences: a member app (book sessions, track progress, connect with the community), a trainer dashboard (manage schedules, track revenue, communicate with clients), and a B2B gym portal (for gym partnerships to white-label the platform).

My role covered the full product design: strategy, UX architecture, all interface design, and the design system underpinning all three surfaces.

Designing for three audiences
without losing coherence.

The biggest design challenge wasn't any single screen — it was maintaining a coherent product identity across three very different user types with very different goals.

A member wants to feel part of something. A trainer wants to run a clean business. A gym partner wants white-label flexibility. These needs pull in different directions. The design system had to be opinionated enough to feel unified, and flexible enough to serve all three.

Members
Community over capability
Members didn't primarily want a fitness tracker. They wanted to feel seen, accountable to others, and part of a crew. The social layer had to be first-class, not an afterthought.
Trainers
Clarity over completeness
Trainers are time-poor. Their dashboard needed to surface the most important information instantly — today's sessions, outstanding payments, messages — without hunting.
Freemium
Value before the paywall
The free tier had to be genuinely useful. If the product felt crippled without paying, community would never form. The paywall had to be about more, not about baseline.
Community
The differentiating bet
Every fitness app has tracking. Few do community well. The strategic decision was to treat community features as the core product, with tracking as the supporting layer — not the reverse.

Designing three products
as one coherent system.

Map the three product surfaces

Started with an architecture map of all three user types and their overlapping journeys. The key question: where do surfaces share components, and where do they diverge? This shaped the design system strategy from day one.

Prioritise the member app first

With no users yet, the member experience was the most important thing to get right. No members = no trainers = no B2B. Designed the session booking, member feed, and onboarding flows first — the heart of community formation.

Trainer dashboard as a power tool

Designed the trainer-facing experience with a "command centre" mental model. Everything a trainer needs to know is visible without scrolling. Session management, client roster, and revenue tracking are always one tap away.

Build a shared design system

Created a single Figma design system servicing all three surfaces. Dark, high-energy aesthetic with the green brand colour. Consistent spacing, type scale, and component library. Enabled fast iteration without visual drift across the product.

Screens built for
real gym energy.

The visual direction is dark, high-contrast, and energetic — matching the emotional register of a real gym. Green as the primary brand accent communicates energy and progress without the aggression of red.

The member app leads with the community feed and session booking. Progress tracking is secondary. The trainer dashboard is dense by design — trainers are professionals who want information, not hand-holding.
